THE HISTORY OF L’OLLETA
The story of this restaurant began in 1982, when Pepe Navarro Barranquí and his wife Pepa Bañuls opened the beachside bar El Cranc in the northern part of Altea, one of the most picturesque villages on the Costa Blanca. Its location is perfect: nestled between the Sierra Bernia and the Mediterranean Sea, where you find L’olla, a stunning bay with caves and crystal-clear waters.
El Cranc, or ‘The Crab,’ was the name chosen by “Uncle Juan” for this beachside bar because, on a full moon night, crabs would crawl up from the beach to the new terrace. And thus, its name was born.
Years passed, and the beachside bar continued to thrive in its privileged location, offering its guests the finest products from the Alicante orchards and the Mediterranean Sea in a wide variety of quality dishes.
At that time, Pepe and Pepa couldn’t have imagined that the story would continue. In 2006, they decided to open a new restaurant, L’olleta, on the Altea promenade, in the former Villa Gadea estate, featuring breathtaking views of the beach and the L’olla Island – better known as Illeta.
And so, Pepa and her brother Vicente carried on the family legacy, both managing the restaurants with the same vision and passion as their parents: offering customers the enjoyment of this Alicante paradise while savoring exquisite dishes. Moreover, those who choose a table at L’olleta know they will relish in picturesque sunsets, the sea breeze, and the sound of the ocean.
